Homespace.is Integrates Chainlink VRF to Help Fairly Distribute Land Parcels
We’re excited to announce that Homespace.is, an innovative virtual meeting service that allows users to create human-like AI replicas, has integrated Chainlink Verifiable Random Function (VRF) on Polygon mainnet. VRF provides a tamper-proof and auditable source of randomness necessary to help fairly allocate public land parcels purchased by users on the Homespace Map, where users can showcase their AI replicas or projects to the public.
Thanks to this integration, users can get the opportunity to purchase land adjacent to major projects or famous AI replicas, which will be created by the Homespace project, in a fair manner. This not only increases the potential value of the land but also makes it more appealing to sell or use for personal purposes, ultimately boosting the popularity of their AI avatar.
Homespace.is understands the importance of providing users with a fair and equal chance to access valuable locations. By incorporating Chainlink VRF into the land allocation mechanism, we help ensure that users have an equal opportunity to acquire prime locations, creating an exciting and equitable experience for all.
To randomly allocate purchased land on our map, we require a secure and transparent random number generator (RNG) that can be independently verified by all users. Unfortunately, RNG solutions for smart contracts are subject to several security considerations that must be taken into account to ensure system integrity and prevent manipulation. For example, RNG solutions that derive from blockchain data such as block hashes can be vulnerable to manipulation by miners or validators. Meanwhile, off-chain RNG solutions based on APIs lack transparency and cannot provide users with conclusive proof regarding the integrity of the process. As such, selecting the right RNG solution is critical to help ensure the trust and confidence of our users in the Homespace Land Purchase system.
We carefully evaluated numerous options and ultimately chose Chainlink VRF due to its utilization of state-of-the-art academic research, combined with a well-established oracle network. Additionally, its secure implementation involves generating and verifying cryptographic proofs, which guarantees the authenticity of every random number supplied to smart contracts. We are confident that this approach provides the highest level of security and reliability for our users and their Homespace land purchases.
Chainlink VRF works by combining block data that is still unknown at the time of the request with the oracle node’s pre-committed private key to generate a random number and a cryptographic proof. The Homespace Land Purchase smart contract will solely accept the random number input if it is accompanied by a valid cryptographic proof, which can only be generated if the VRF process is tamper-proof. This helps ensure that our users receive automated and verifiable guarantees directly on-chain for the random allocation of purchased land on the map and shows that the distribution process has not been interfered with by external entities, the Homespace team, or the oracle.
